Is there anybody in the local area who is a competent smith on the Springfield M1911-A1 trigger? I'd like to get mine smoothed up, and down to the CMP limit of 4 pounds (+1/2, -0). I don't want the work done by a "Barnyard mechanic who has the best set of grinding wheels in the county", I want a real gunsmith trained in this area.

Chuck, I don't know if he uses such techincal measurements as you want with your A1, but out on 24th St. in Ogden, west of the RR overpass, on the south side of the road, sits a gunsmith in a corner building. He does nothing but gunsmithing, and he has machine shop equipmtne that makes your eyes water. Some people say he's a tad difficult to get along with, but if you understand he's only going to take the jobs he wants to do, and he really likes "old" military firearms, and he's going to do the job just as fast as he wants to, and if you start bugging him too much he slows down, then you get along just fine. Frantz Brunner is his name but I'm not sure about the proper spelling. An old (not as old as you or me!) German gunsmith artist. He made my Mod-70 trigger as smooooooth as honey, along with several other changes and improvements.
I'd go to him if I needed shop work that was important, but like I say you'd have to ask him if he could give you a certain pound-letoff that would pass the contest checks.

I had the smith at Impact Guns work on the trigger. He did an outstanding job. The trigger breaks at 4 pounds with no creep. Also had him do the 22/45 Ruger trigger. Same fine job, 2 1/2 pounds. I'm planning to shoot the Springfield today, if I ever wake up.
